Hey Reader,

Stare at the screen

And watch the NASA feed

And clean out the chickens

And wash up the mugs

And plant the courgettes

And tidy the greenhouse

And hoover the shoes

And organise the books

And tile the bathroom

And read about the Beckhams

And rewire the house

And stretch my shoulders

And sort out my wardrobe

And make a daisy chain

Anything, in fact, other than write the book I am supposed to be writing.

This, my friend, is Book Purgatory.

It’s particularly hellish because it masquerades as Being Productive. After all, look at alllll the things we have accomplished!

Bonus accomplishment: we don’t have to think about the fact that we’re not writing and, more to the point, WHY we’re not writing.

Your Being Productive list might look different from mine, but I bet it exists.

Almost all the authors I work with have, at some point during their writing process, experienced this at least once.

It’s okay.

What’s NOT okay is letting it become a regular occurrence because that teaches our brains that writing is awful and painful and the other thing is much better for everyone.

NO.

Nonono.

It’s much better for everyone if you figure out how to do the thing you want to do and luckily you do not have to do that on your own.

That’s what I’m here for, and I’m very good at it.

If you’ve just read this and thought my god it feels like you’re in my head can you fuck off please? then firstly no I will not because I know how painful it is to be stuck in this space.

And secondly, MicroBook Magic is perfect for you.

We start on April 27, and the doors close on Friday, and I am SO excited about it!

Don’t let your book languish in purgatory for another year. Give yourself the gift of getting this done.

Reading time: 4.25 1,050 words Read this email in your browser Hey Reader, I’m gonna need a pinny, a handmade hazel basket, and a pilgrim bonnet. Plus ample tea and cake. Because when it comes to gardening your way out of existential dread, there is a GODDAM AESTHETIC AND I WANT IT. Look. We can sit and wring our hands about the dystopian headlines that keep flying at our faces like unwanted dicpics or we can get productively angry and plant a garden. I’m lucky enough to have vegetable beds...
