Reading time: 0.42 166 words Hey Reader, meme: noun “an element of a culture or system of behaviour passed from one individual to another by imitation or other non-genetic means” It’d be easy to assume memes arrived with the advent of the internet, but that assumption would be wrong. Memes go back to medieval times and probably to cave paintings, too. I love the idea that cavepeople were wandering the lands and calling into their cave-neighbours and thinking hahaha look at that antelope, it looks like it’s had one too many fermented berry drinks then taking that idea back to their home cave and painting it on their own wall. I have no evidence for that, however. What I can offer you is illuminated manuscripts. Those monks loved their memes! Their favourites included knights battling snails, animals kicking the crap out of humans, and weird anatomically improbably shenanigans. If you now disappear down a wormhole of illuminated medieval manuscripts, I can only say: enjoy! Much merriment and confusion awaits! Happy Monday. TTFN, Vicky 🫡 p.s.
