Story isn’t the big banana

Hey Reader,

“Write a book? A BOOK? Like, 200 pages and 50,000 words? A compelling story that hooks you in and drags you along that is worthy of the bestseller lists?

Are you kidding me?”

Well, if you put it like that…

Ya, a book feels terrifying.

So let’s not do that. Not just yet.

Instead, consider this:

Story isn’t the big banana. A book isn’t the enormous enchilada.

The story and the book are simply the vehicle for the idea.

So riddle me this: what’s your idea?

You have an idea. You have loads of ideas. You wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t.

Forget about the book for now. Forget about the story, and even forget about that LinkedIn post you’ve been noodling on.

Focus on the idea.

You don’t have to tell a story yet.

You don’t have to write a book.

Just give us your idea, in a couple of paragraphs (or less).

Get out your notebook or voice notes or Notes app or however you record your thoughts and write about your idea. What is it? Why is it important to you? Why should the reader give a shit?

And… voilà! You’ve begun!

Now — don’t stop.

I’m opening the doors to MicroBook Magic Season 7 next week, an 8-week writing adventure that guides you through the first draft of your book.

You’ll get everything you need to start, write, and publish with my personal feedback and coaching for the whole 8 weeks.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Weekly group calls to get my individual feedback on your writing, structure, and progress — and cheerleading and encouragement from your fellow writers.
  • Weekly office hours via Telegram so you can ask a question real quick and get a fast answer from me (or one of your fellow writers, because there’s a lot of wisdom in these rooms).
  • Accountability and support from me and a group of like-minded writers so you never feel alone and floundering and stuck.
  • A pre-course workshop to help you iron the kinks out of your idea and get clear on why you’re doing this.
  • Templates, guides, and prompts so you’re never staring bleakly at a blank page.
  • Nibble-sized lessons to walk you through each step involved in planning, writing, and editing your book — no overwhelm here, just simple, doable tasks every day.
  • A post-course celebration Showcase for you to show off what you’ve been working on to your friends, family, and strangers on the internet (everyone who does this hates the idea until they do it, then they’re SO glad they did, so don’t be too scared!)
  • BONUS access to my Creative Playground Power Hours — dedicated writing spaces, microworkshops, and group hotseat/brainstorming sessions to support your book.

We start on April 28.

There are a maximum of 15 spaces available, so it’s a small intimate group where you’ll get a LOT of attention from your book coach — me! — you’re never left to figure it all out on your own.

A standard ticket is £997 + VAT and a VIP ticket (which includes 2 private coaching calls and your book typeset and ready to go) is £1,700 + VAT. Payment plans are available!

To find out more or to figure out if this is the right thing for you, read this or reply and ask me anything.

TTFN,

Vicky

(Yep I woke up and chose violence today and I AM NOT SORRY) The cognitive dissonance that comes from repeatedly vowing to do something but not doing it is painful. It makes a liar of us. For a lot of people (and myself on occasion) this is what a week looks like: 😀 Monday: Will work on my book today, but first I need to do more research between my other work. I’ll start...

(this isn’t a flex, promise) I took a massive scary leap and turned away from something people needed — sales copywriting — towards something nobody “needs” — writing a book. I kinda expected to last a month, then have to get a job picking fruit or stacking shelves or go back to being a cleaner again. But something weird and wonderful happened: people wanted to write. They...

Hey Reader, Caution: you may experience these side effects when you write your book: 🌤️ An increased sense of self 🗝️ Realising the true value you have to offer 👀 A new way of looking at the world ✨ Seeing — really seeing — your true skills, knowledge, and talent (May also cause giddiness, tears, laughter, rage, delight, and a propensity to panic-eat cheese.) And that’s just the side effects. Because you also get A BOOK. A real live book you...
