Reading time: 0.47 186 words Hey Reader, “How to become an expert: Do more repetitions than anyone else in a narrow field.” —Alex Hormozi Uggggghhhhhhh THESE QUOTES. Hit the snooze button and roll over. You know the type of writing I mean: slightly toxic, very shareable, pairs beautifully with a pensive selfie and some colours that POP. They’re not untrue necessarily… but GOOD LORD THEY ARE SO DULL. They clog up our social feeds and short-circuit the thinking parts of our brains and make us feel like we’ve thought a deep thought when really we’ve just skimmed past a shallow one. Take that daft blame quote: “If you want to feel better, blame others. If you want to get better, blame yourself.” Ugh, fine. But blame isn’t the point, is it? Responsbility is the point. And what we actually DO about the thing that went wrong — that’s where the deep thinking happens. So that’s your challenge this week. Find one of these inanities in the wild. Shouldn’t take you long. Then use it as a springboard to say something real. I want to read what you come up with. TTFN, Vicky 🫡 p.s. Know someone who might enjoy this email? Reading time: 4.47 1,138 words Read this email in your browser Hey Reader, A few years ago, I got lost in an abandoned town near Fethiye, in Turkey: Kayaköy Ghost Town. I was deliberately lost because I was imagining that I was in a computer game. And also because I wanted to interrupt my usual patterns of needing to know everything in advance. (Because we all know how very possible THAT goal is to achieve.) I didn’t have a map of the town. I turned off my phone data. I was completely alone....
Reading time: 3.46 894 words Read this email in your browser Hey Reader, “You make it look so easy!” That’s when you know you’re really good at something. When someone says that. And I always glow a little bit and puff myself up a little taller. But there is something inherently frustrating in this whole exchange, and nowhere is it more stark than when you’re upside down on a trapeze in front of a couple of hundred people, and the death-defying move you just did got a ripple of applause, but...
Reading time: 0.52 203 words Read this email in your browser Hey Reader, Beware of the Sit Pit. I fell into one just yesterday afternoon. Only meant to sit down for a moment, but that’s how it gets you. An hour later, and I’ve run out of lives on my phone game and can’t quite reach my book. But then— Whiskey to the rescue! She’s our little old lady cat and she’s deaf so when she wants things, the entire village knows about it. She decided it was time to Go Outside. And so we did. Where I...
