Hey Reader,

Beware of the Sit Pit.

I fell into one just yesterday afternoon. Only meant to sit down for a moment, but that’s how it gets you. An hour later, and I’ve run out of lives on my phone game and can’t quite reach my book.

But then— Whiskey to the rescue! She’s our little old lady cat and she’s deaf so when she wants things, the entire village knows about it.

She decided it was time to Go Outside.

And so we did.

Where I discovered that the blackberries are ripening and proceeded to eat approximately half my bodyweight in berries foraged straight off the bush.

And now, here’s this email in your inbox, written and scheduled post-Sit Pit after Whiskey staged a blackberry intervention.

Sometimes this is how I write.

I avoid it, and avoid it, and avoid it, and then something else comes to my attention (ripe blackberries in this case — they’re flippin’ early this year) and if I’m verrrrrry careful I can swerve myself towards my writing implements and get it done.

Above all, though, if there are things you want to do:

Under no circumstances should you sit down.

The Sit Pit will eat you.

And if the Sit Pit already has you, and you desperately want to start your book, I can help with that. I have 3 Book Breakthrough: Unlocked spots available for August and one of them has your name on it.

TTFN,

Vicky 🫡

p.s. Go foraging for blackberries and tell me HOW BLOODY GOOD THEY ARE THIS YEAR. So tasty. SO TASTY. There’s a crumble on the way. Blackberries and rhubarb from my garden. WINNING!

p.p.s. Know someone who might enjoy this email? Please forward it to them and get them to sign up here.

And I always glow a little bit and puff myself up a little taller. But there is something inherently frustrating in this whole exchange, and nowhere is it more stark than when you’re upside down on a trapeze in front of a couple of hundred people, and the death-defying move you just did got a ripple of applause, but...

And our lizard brains tell us very clearly that if that happens WE WILL DEFINITELY DIE. Because back in the day when we lived in little groups and hunted and gathered, we probably WOULD die if we got ousted. Eaten by a sabre-toothed tiger or the enemies from...

My soul definitely abandoned my body and headed for a corner of the ceiling to watch so it could claim to have nothing to do with the disaster about to happen. “You’re on your own, mate,” it hissed. “This is a batshit thing to do. Sayonara, doofus.” Ten minutes later, my soul rejoined...
