Reading time: 2.44 Hey Reader, I didn’t know, until after we’d finished MicroBook Magic Season 2, that Sharon wasn’t just struggling with her own doubts. When she was in college, double majoring in English and Pysch, an English professor told her she “can’t write, and never will.” As an aside: it boggles me why some people go into teaching. Who would say that to a young person? And WHY? But this isn’t about that low-quality professor. It’s about Sharon. Because she went on to write her first ever book: Self-Care is NOT a Bubble Bath. And colour me surprised because honestly I kinda thought that’s what self-care was! Like every single book that’s come out of MicroBook Magic Seasons 1-6, it’s taught me something important and changed my life in a small but profound way. I am deeply honoured to have been a small part of this. And I am beyond — BEYOND — proud that I helped Sharon write her first book despite the doubts that professor wedged into her mind. So: if you’re thinking of writing a MicroBook, let Sharon tell you about it in her words. “I have had book ideas in my head for years, but never quite been brave enough to start one. The idea of a microbook & having someone help me with the editing process removed a lot of that fear.
As a small business it was hard to justify that price when I know the book sales will be minimum. I also worried about not being a good enough writer to warrant self-publishing. I never want to do something that isn’t amazing. But I wanted to write a book! The process was made much less scary through the calls & assistance through Voxer/email.
And now I’ve finished a f******* book! It is exhilarating and exciting to see my dreams coming true in real time. As a child I used to write short stories & journaling was like prepping to write a memoir. I double majored in college — English & Psych, but had a writing professor who said I “couldn’t write & never would.” So I just assumed it was a talent I didn’t have. This class helped me realize my dream of writing a book (and hopefully soon publishing a book). The occasional hand-holding from Vicky helped me overcome my fears & encourage me to keep going.
Vicky has an infectious personality in the BEST way possible! It’s impossible to NOT get hyped & excited to write a book after a call with her. The encouragement & belief in her authors was what kept me going even when I felt completely out of my element. The simple way she presented each topic covered through the 4 weeks was insightful & to the point. The templates are GOLD & truly helped me create something from nothing.
MicroBook Magic gave me confidence, knowledge, inspiration and of course — a FREAKING BOOK!”
Well, Sharon, you CAN write. And write well. There’s a lot to unpack here but I just want to say: if you — or anyone else — has ever told you that you’re not a writer or that you’re not good enough to write a book… please don’t let that stop you from trying. Nobody was born a writer, just as nobody was born a doctor, or a swimmer, or a street cleaner, or a chef. We get there by learning and practising and repeating it again and again. And with help and support. Writers write. End of story. Or, rather, beginning of story — writers write and then we share it with the world and write the next thing. I would be honoured to help you write your next thing, create a Mighty MicroBook, and help you share it with the world. Onboarding for Season 7 of MicroBook Magic starts on April 28. All the details and the booking link are here. See you there?
TTFN, Vicky

Reading time: 4.25 Read this email in your browser. Hey Reader, There’s a certain quality of light you get in the early morning and late evening, in the UK at least. Not golden hour, although that’s stunning; it’s a little later than that in the evening — immediately after dusk — and just around sunrise in the morning, if the sky is clear. There’s a strange clarity to everything. Lights look brighter, especially car headlights. The air has a sparkly haze. And flowers are luminous. Sometimes...
Reading time: 4.08 Read this email in your browser. Hey Reader, “I am profoundly slothful,” said Fran Lebowitz, successful author of two books of essays — Metropolitan Life and Social Studies. This, after she’d spent a decade — yes, TEN YEARS — not writing anything. Puts my dodgy, creatively dry days, into some kind of perspective. I don’t know why Lebowitz struggled to write more than one chapter in a decade, any more than I know why you might have a bad writing day. Sometimes, I don’t even...
Reading time: 1.12 Read this email in your browser. Hey Reader, Always “going to write” your book? Not actually written it? (Yep I woke up and chose violence today and I AM NOT SORRY) The cognitive dissonance that comes from repeatedly vowing to do something but not doing it is painful. It makes a liar of us. For a lot of people (and myself on occasion) this is what a week looks like: 😀 Monday: Will work on my book today, but first I need to do more research between my other work. I’ll start...
